This compilation of six slow movements from Gustav Mahler's symphonies was created in 2011, as part of my contribution to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of his death on 18.May. The selection is done in chronological order of the composition. The very first movement is "Blumine", the long-lost original second movement of the Symphony No.1. This movement had been removed by Mahler after three performances with a lukewarm reception. Recently, it has been shown by scholars that this movement indeed has some important phrases and motifs which carry on into later works. The rendition here is done with trumpet solist Julius Eiweck.
All other renditions have been performed with orchestra instrument samples, played on a keyboard by me individually, voice by voice. My goal was to create renditions which have the characteristics of full orchestra performances, with my own personal interpretation.
