"Arie des Tenor" from Rosenkavalier (1911)

by Richard Strauss

/

about

This recording was created in 2000 as part of an experiment, bringing together human singing performance and synthesized orchestration. The principle recording technique was:

1. A MIDI file with just a piano excerpt of the orchestration was created. This file was then the basis for the singer to create his voice recording. The singer, George Everett, had the expertise to edit the tempi of the MIDI file, so that it would accompany his voice in the properly chosen tempi.
2. George then recorded his singing, while wearing headphones, listening to his adapted version of the MIDI piano file.
3. He sent then both the MIDI file and the voice recording back to me.
4. I then used the tempi of the MIDI file to record the original orchestration from the score around his voice.

The orchestra instruments are from a Yamaha MU-80 synthesizer and from Cakewalk soundfonts.

This recording is made again available for the 150th birthday of Richard Strauss on 11.June 2014.

Virtual Philharmonic Orchestra (Reinhold Behringer)

Since 1993 I use computers to create music. These are renditions of classical music works which I have known for a long time and of which I am very fond of. I also create my own compositions with these computer tools (sequencer, sampler).

Most of these renditions here are using "Garritan Personal Orchestra 5" samples. I am using the sequencer "Cakewalk" by Bandlab.
